At King Country Energy we employ our own meter reading team and aim to read urban customer’s meters monthly and rural meters every second month.

If you receive an estimated account and would prefer to pay on an actual reading, simply give us a call with your meter reading straight away and we'll post you an up-to-date account.

How to read your meter

There are times when you may want check your meter reading against your account or just have a look to see how fast you're using electricity. Reading your electricity meter can be tricky if you haven't done it before – which is why we've put together this short guide.

Dial meters

Start by ignoring the 1/100 and 1/10 dials. These dials show part units and provide a higher degree accuracy than is necessary.

Read the other dials from left to right. Each dial is read as the figure which the hand last passed, not the figure it is closest to. Eg the 1000 dial in the picture is read as 5. If the hand is between 9 and 0 write down 9. If the hand is on a figure, say 4, write down 3 (1 less than the figure the hand is pointing to), unless the next dial on the right is between 0 and 1.

Cyclometers

If you have a cyclometer simply write down the numbers from left to right, if part of 2 different numbers are showing write down the lower of the 2 numbers.
