Holler for a Hand

If there’s one thing we have experienced first-hand; it’s that a farmer’s work is never done.

That's why each year KCE offers two deserving farmers within our operating area the chance to ‘holler for a hand’ on the farm.

If you’re the winner of Holler for a Hand, our team will roll up their sleeves and spend a day on your farm helping out with any odd jobs you need a hand with.

The King Country’s Garry and Angela Vincent and Brian and Andrew Price were the lucky farmers who received an entire day’s worth of free farm-help from KCE staff in July/August.

Andrea Price said she and husband Bryan were “thrilled” with the work that the “friendly, helpful, hard-working” volunteers gave when they visited their sheep and beef farm.

In April Andrea and Bryan lost their son Ben in a gyro-copter accident. A month later Bryan fell several metres and fractured two vertebrae in his spine, which left him out of action for many months.

The team helped with wood splitting, water-blasting, removal of an old vegetable patch from a paddock, and took down old counting-out pens from the wool shed.

Garry and Angela Vincent, who have a dairy farm at Hangatiki, applied for Holler for a Hand after a series of formidable events, including a broken leg which left Garry out of action.

Angela Vincent said on-farm maintenance work and planned upgrades paid the price and left lots of jobs on the to do list. The extra help to prepare and clean calf rearing equipment, install new calf pens, clean up the cowshed and tractor, and remove unwanted bamboo was a massive morale booster for the Vincents.

“I want to thank KCE for assisting the farming community, and for understanding that farming is an ongoing challenge,” said Mrs Vincent. “The crew from KCE were awesome people and really keen to help… it was great to get everything in place and get prepared for the coming season.”
