KCE Wairere
Next Generation Scholarship
King Country Energy is delighted to announce the Wairere Next Generation Scholarship.
The one-off scholarship, to be awarded in the 2026 calendar year, coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Wairere Power Station, a hydroelectric scheme located near Piopio in the Waitomo District.
For 100 years, the awa and surrounding catchment has ‘given’ its resources to power the scheme. In recognition of this, KCE wants to give something back to local people.
Students enrolled in a New Zealand university, polytechnic or apprenticeship programme are encouraged to apply to cover fees or costs for 2026.
The scholarship will financially assist students who are currently enrolled in post-secondary study and who have a connection to the Mokau River.
The scholarship is worth up to $5,000 NZD tax free. Fees will be paid directly to the successful recipient’s New Zealand bank account.
