Hydropower electricity generator, King Country Energy has appointed Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Contact Energy, Matt Forbes, to its board of directors following the departure of former Chair, Phil Wiltshire, CFO of Manawa Energy.
Forbes brings to the board role more than 20 years of experience in corporate finance, capital markets, strategic planning, and risk management. He was appointed CFO of Contact Energy in May 2025 and has been with the company since 2010, holding senior leadership roles in corporate finance and investor relations.
On Forbes’ appointment, General Manager of King Country Energy (KCE), Chris Fincham says, “Matt’s deep knowledge of the energy sector and proven track record in strategic finance make him a valuable addition to the KCE board. His leadership has been instrumental in shaping Contact’s renewable energy journey, and we’re looking forward to the insight and energy he will bring to KCE in his dual role as Director and Chair.”
On the opportunity to support KCE’s governance and strategic direction Matt Forbes says, "It’s a privilege to join the King Country Energy board. Chris Fincham also expressed his appreciation for Phil Wiltshire, whose last day in the role of KCE Chair was 10 July 2025.

Incumbent directors, General Manager Generation at Manawa Energy, Todd Mead, and Trustee of the King Country Trust, Jo Bransgrove, remain on the KCE board. Both extend a warm welcome to Matt Forbes and express their enthusiasm for the experience and insight he brings to the table.
Forbes was formally appointed Chair of the KCE Board at the Board meeting on Wednesday, 16 July.
